Today we celebrate the Lord’s Day and observe the Feast of the Most Holy Trinity. Each year after the leave-taking of Easter the Western Church commemorates the theological feast of the Most Blessed Trinity. Our Christian faith teaches us that our God is ONE but has revealed Himself in Three Divine Persons; the Father, the Son Christ Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. Our God is a community of persons equal yet distinct. It is God who invites us into communion with Him so that we may share in His divine life now and more fully in eternity.

As we gather to celebrate the Lord’s Day we come to the 50th and final day of Easter, the Solemnity of Pentecost. It was on this day and at 9 o’clock in the morning that the Evangelist Luke tells us in Acts of the Apostles that the Holy Spirit was sent to the Apostles and disciples of Jesus gathered around the Mother of God in the upper room. God the Holy Spirit filled them with His power so that they could proclaim to the entire world that JESUS CHRIST IS LORD! This little band of followers grew to be larger than the Roman Empire which persecuted it. The courage and enthusiasm which filled the hearts of Jesus’ disciples propelled them into a culture in which they were not afraid to witness to their faith. Their determination to live according to Gospel values and to reject secular ways is indeed an inspiration to us all as we reflect upon our lives today.

My Dear Parishioners, We gather to celebrate the Lord’s Day on this Sixth Sunday of Easter. In the Gospel passage for today we once again hear a portion of the conversation the Lord Jesus had with the Apostles at the Last Supper. In this periscope the Lord tells them that He would soon be leaving them and returning to the Father. Jesus tells them, “Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid. You heard me tell you, ‘I am going away and I will come back to you.’ If you loved me, you would rejoice that I am going to the Father; for the Father is greater than I.”
