We gather for the Eucharist on this the 18thSunday in Ordinary Time to celebrate the Lord’s Day. The Gospel reading, as last Sunday, is taken from the “Bread of Life Discourse” from the 6th chapter of John’s Gospel. Today we hear the crowd which followed Jesus ask, “What can we do to accomplish the works of God?’ Jesus answered and said to them, ‘This is the work of God, that you believe in the one he sent. (v. 28-29)”
oday is the 17th Sunday in Ordinary Time as we come to celebrate the Lord’s Day. For the next four Sundays the Gospel reading will be taken from the sixth chapter of John’s Gospel which is called “the Bread of Life Discourse.” Today’s reading begins with the Lord Jesus recognizing the hunger of the people and invites His Apostles to respond to the need. With only five loaves of bread and two fish Jesus performs a miracle by multiplying this insignificant number into a feast which produces leftovers.
Are you being called to serve God and Sacred Heart Church? If you feel you are, would you consider joining the Confirmation Team to bring students closer to the Holy Spirit?
In our celebration of the Lord’s Day on this 16th Sunday in Ordinary Time we hear scriptural texts which speak to us of the image of the shepherd. For Christians the Good Shepherd is the Lord Jesus Himself. He lovingly and selflessly provides pastoral care for His sheep. He gave His own life sacrificially on the Cross to bring about healing and reconciliation which brings about peace.
Our assembly today marks the 15th Sunday in Ordinary Time as we celebrate the LORD’S DAY . On this day of rest and worship the scriptural texts tell us of those whom the Lord sent to proclaim His Kingdom. Those sent go with the Lord’s blessing but are also burdened because this task is challenging. The work of evangelizing is not an easy task. Sacrifice, commitment, resilience, trust are but only a few of the virtues one needs to possess in proclaiming the Kingdom of God in a world where secularism and indifferentism are prominent.
Summer Bible Camp begins next week, and will be held from Tuesday July 21st to Saturday, July 25th at Saint Cecilia School each evening from 6 to 8 o’clock. This faith formation program is designed for children ages 4 to 14, and is an annual program of both Sacred Heart of Jesus Church and Saint Cecilia Church.
Today is the Lord’s Day and the 14th Sunday in Ordinary Time. The scriptural texts speak about those chosen and sent by the Lord to witness in His Name. The Gospel Acclamation proclaims: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me for He sent me to bring glad tidings to the poor.” (Luke 4:18) The Lord has always sent out those He chooses to teach, govern and sanctify in His Name. Throughout salvation history we see those called to leave the security of their families, homes, livelihood and culture to serve the Lord in the upbuilding of His Kingdom on earth. Those who answer this call experience the sufferings which Saint Paul speaks of in his correspondence to the Corinthians as we find in today’s second reading.
